William Thomas Raymond Sr., 79, of Cumberland, Md., died Oct. 18, 1994 at Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit. Born June 11, 1915 in Meyersdale, he was the son of the late Frederick George Raymond and Ida Belle (Dahl) Raymond. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maxine S. (Mullenax) Raymond on June 14, 1990; four brothers: Carl, Daniel, John and George, and one sister, Catherine Bennett. He is survived by two sons: William T. Raymond Jr. and wife Pamela K., Cumberland; Rodney E. Raymond and wife Rosemarie, Cumberland; one brother, Joseph Raymond, Meyersdale; two sisters: Margie Hewczuk, Coatsville, Pa.; Mary Kyburz; Wichita,Kan.; and one granddaughter, Megan Raymond, Cumberland. Mr. Raymond was a prominent salesman for Burton's Clothing Store, where he retired in 1983 with 38 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the Signet Corps in the European Theatre. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 245; Knights of Columbus 586 and Henry Hart Post 1411 VFW. He was a member of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church. A Christian wake service was held at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, Cumberland, on Oct. 20. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church on Oct. 21. Interment, Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, where military rites were accorded by combined veterans color guard. Pallbearers were John Bache, Michael Hillditch, Randy Killander, Michael Robertson, John Wolford and Richard Wolford. New Republic, October 27, 1994 [R134]
