Reeder, 81, formerly of Mercersburg, passed away March 13, 2008, following a brief hospitalization. He was a son of the late Claude Cook and Nettie Mae Pittman Reeder. George is survived by Mary Lenore Cross Reeder, his wife of 53 years; son, David F. Reeder and his, wife, Rhonda, Greencastle; son, Daniel C. Reeder and his wife, Patricia, St. Thomas; sister, Doris Marie Reeder, Lemasters; grandchildren, Laura Reeder, Greencastle; and Rachel, James and Scott Reeder, St. Thomas. He is also survived by his cousin, Roy E. Barmont, St. Thomas. George was born in 1926 in Chambersburg. He grew up in the Lemasters area on various farms. George owned and operated a milk route prior to being drafted into the army in 1950. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in Germany for two years during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1952. He then returned to the Mercersburg area where he owned and operated a school bus for several years before beginning a dairy business in 1958. He maintained the family business until his retirement in 1979 when he and Len moved to their farm in Somerset County to enjoy country life and travel throughout the United States. George was also able to pursue his passion for flying and earned a pilot's license at the Hagerstown Regional Airport. He joined a flying club in Cumberland, Md., and flew a variety of small aircraft. George was an Active pilot through his late 70's and was known as an excellent aviator. There will be a time for visitation and viewing at 1 p.m. followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Lemasters, where George was a lifelong member. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert L. Mentzer and the Rev. David G. Rawley. Interment will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Lemasters. Arrangements are by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg.
