He was born in Brachannel, Scotland, on October 4, 1849, and was the oldest son of Alexander and Annie Cunningham Reid. His parents moved to Lonaconing, Md., when he was a small boy, and he lived there until he was a young man, when he moved to the vicinity of Confluence, where he spent his life on the fine Reid farm on the Yough River. He was married on July 22, 1909, to Lillie Lish of Pittsburgh. He is survived by his wife and children, John L. Reid and Lillian Reid, also by one brother, Alexander Reid, of Confluence, and three sisters, Mrs. W. B. Fortney and Miss Mary Reid, who always made her home with him on the Reid farm, and Mrs. Annie McIndoe, of Lonaconing, Md. Two brothers, Magnus Reid, of New York, and William Reid, of Confluence, preceded him to the grave. The cause of his death was heart trouble. He had been in poor health for nearly four years, but was not bedfast until seven weeks before his death. John Reid was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, being affiliated with the Confluence congregation and was a man of sterling character. He was honest in all his dealings with his fellow men, and was devoted to his home and family. The funeral services were held at the family home on Wednesday, December 18, at 2:30 p.m., Rev. H. W. Jamison officiating; interment in the Johnson Chapel cemetery. Undertaker C. B. Humbert had charge of the funeral arrangements. Meyersdale Republican, January 2, 1930
