Reitz, died last Saturday at 12:30 p.m., at the home of her son, J. Edward Reitz, 602 Atlantic Avenue, Altoona, in her 79th year. Her death was due to bladder and kidney trouble, and the infirmities of old age. Mr. and Mrs. Hartman Reitz were residents of Salisbury and vicinity for many years, where they reared a large brood of children who like their parents, have ever been held in high esteem by all who learned to know them. Most of their children were born in Salisbury, but like most large families, in the course of time, became widely scattered, and some have passed on to that bourne from whence none ever returns. Mr. and Mrs. Reitz located at West Salisbury nearly fifty years ago, where for several years Mr. Reitz operated a large grist mill, which was consumed by fire about the year 1892 or 1893, some time after Mr. Reitz was succeeded there as miller by his brother, Henry. After retiring from the milling business, Hartman Reitz acquired the old Salisbury Planing Mill, which he operated for a number of years. He also, for a period of probably 20 years, operated a cider mill and applebutter factory in Salisbury, but finally retired from business and departed this life about the year 1925. Not long after the death of her husband, Mrs. Reitz quit housekeeping, and lived with her children, making her home for several months at a time with one, and then with another, where she was always most welcome and well cared for, as the infirmities of old age gradually settled upon her. She was a wife and mother of the finest type, and was held in high esteem by all her neighbors and acquaintances, for her many fine traits of character. Mrs. Reitz was the mother of eight children, as follows: Harvey, deceased; Cora, widow of the late John Kann, of Pittsburgh; Albert, deceased, who for many years was cashier of the First National Bank of Salisbury; Edward, of Altoona; William, of Jerome; Ella, wife of C. K. Rumiser, of Salisbury; Elizabeth, deceased, who was the wife of Thomas Little; Harry, of Johnstown. In addition to her surviving children, Mrs. Reitz is also survived by a brother and two sisters who reside in Johnstown, and by 23 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Mrs. Reitz was a devout and faithful member of the Church of the Brethren nearly all her life, and remained faithful to the last. After her body was prepared for burial, it was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. K. Rumiser on Monday, and from thence to the Salisbury Church of the Brethren at 3 o'clock p.m., Tuesday, at which place and time, the obsequies were conducted by Rev. George L. Detweiler, pastor of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren. The burial arrangement was in charge of Funeral Director W. C. Price, of Meyersdale. Interment was made in the Salisbury I.O.O.F. Cemetery. There was a big attendance of relatives and friends at the funeral, and the services were impressive and beautiful. Meyersdale Republican, February 5, 1931
