Renkel accepted the pastorate of three churches of the Hampstead (Md.) Parish. In 1942, he was called to pastor the new Ascension Lutheran Church of Towson, Md. Forced to relocate, the Second English Lutheran Church called Rev. Renkel in 1946 to help find a new location, build a church and education building and to pastor. In 1958, after a brief Florida pastorate, he became pastor of the Chambersburg First Lutheran Church. Called again by a congregation to assist in the building of a new church and education building, Rev. Renkel pastored the Trinity Lutheran Church of Somerset, until his retirement from active ministry in 1969.
