Born Jan. 18, 1926, in Somerset Township, Somerset County, son of the late Clark McKinley and Viola Binney (Sleasman) Rhodes. In addition to parents, preceded in death by wife, Anna (Chelosky) Rhodes, who died Aug. 28, 1995; three brothers, Jay, Roy and Merle Rhodes; sister, Rena Rhodes, and grandson, Michael J. Young. Survived by these children: Robert J. Rhodes Jr., married to the former Linda Shaulis, Friedens; Mrs. H David (Kathy A.) Martin, Somerset; and Mrs. Ronald W. (Gloria Jean) Young, Stoystown; grandchildren: Mrs. Richard (Lisa) Hoyman, Garrett; Robert J. Rhodes III, Monroe, N.C.; Miss Gina M. Lohr, Washington, D.C.; Eric James Young, Stoystown; and great-grandson, Cody Richard Hoyman. Brother of Mrs. Thelma Barron, widow of David A., Somerset; Mrs. George (Maude) Engbert, New Baltimore; Mrs. Lynn (Pauline) Reiking, Somerset. Also close friend and companion, Kathleen Miller, Somerset. Member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. Retired in 1984 from the former Cooper-Jarrett Trucking Co. Also member of International Brotherhood of Teamsters. U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Friends received from 2:30 to 4:30 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Edward W. Ebersole officiating.
