All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ _______________________________________________ RHODES Roy Frederick Rhodes, 75, of Orchard Hill, Mount Pleasant, died Jan. 29, 1997, at the Presbyterian University Hospital in Pittsburgh. He died as a result of complications following recent surgery. Mr. Rhodes was born in Somerset on June 20, 1921, to the late Clark McKinley and Viola (Sleasman) Rhodes. Mr. Rhodes spent his early years in Somerset. He married Emmalou Sleasman in 1939. Tragically, she died in an auto accident, along with children, John and Nancy Rhodes, in 1946. In 1948, he married Sarah Gwynn, who survives. A son from this marriage, Leonard Rhodes, died as the result of a bicycle accident in 1960. Mr. Rhodes married the former Lillie Mae Keifer Waters in 1988 and resided with her until the time of his death. Others preceding him in death were brothers: Jay and Merle Rhodes; sister, Rene Rhodes; son Roy David Rhodes, and grandchildren Karen and Robert Anderson and Steven Craig Smith. In addition to his wife, Lillie Mae Rhodes, Mr. Rhodes is survived by the following children: Clark (Dusty) Rhodes and wife, Carolyn, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; Linda (Rhodes) Smith and husband, Jonathan. of Carmichaels; Paul Rhodes of Carmichaels; Ruth (Rhodes) Benton and husband, Philip, of Hookstown, and Daniel Rhodes and wife, Anita Ruse, of Aliquippa. Also surviving are the following grandchildren: Linda Colvig of Willits, Calif.; Laura and Jeremy Smith of Carmichaels and Shawn Rhodes of Angleton. Texas. Great-grandchildren surviving Mr. Rhodes are: Matthew Colvig of Dublin, Ohio; Michael Colvig of Annapolis, Md.; and Mary Colvig of Hamilton. N.Y. Brothers and sisters surviving are: Mrs. David (Thelma) Barron of Somerset RD 3; Mrs. George (Maude) Engbert of New Baltimore and Senior Citizen Center and looked forward to playing bingo other people was a big part of his life. He very much appreciated the weekly T.V. sermons of Rev. Robert Schuller. Family and friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Galone-Caruso, 204 Eagle St., Mount Pleasant. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. Feb. 1, with the Rev. Richard W. Shields officiating. Interment at the Lavansville Cemetery, Somerset County. Contributions may be made to the Mount Pleasant Senior Citizen Center, Mount Pleasant, or charity of choice.
