He had several slight strokes about a year ago and was ill for a long time. He had apparently completely recovered. On the day of his death his wife left their home early to go to Frostburg. Apparently in good health when he awakened, he dressed and went to the barn to feed the stock. When his wife returned about 4:00 p.m., she found him dead in the barn. Mr. Rickard was born at Wellersburg on January 17, 1876, son of Jacob and Mahala (Bittner) Rickard, and was 70 years, 5 months and 4 days in age at his death. His wife, the former Mrs. Louise Paul, survives, and also one step-son, Elmer Paul. Funeral services were conducted in the Greenville Lutheran Church at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, with the Rev. George E. Bowersox, Jr. officiating. Interment in the church cemetery in charge of Mortician Stanley M. Thomas. Meyersdale Republican, June 27, 1946
