Born Jan. 4, 1908, in England, son of the late Edward and Ellen (Jarvis) Riley. Also preceded in death by first wife, the former Mildred Reay; brothers, William, Thomas (Tim) and John Riley; sisters, Mary Hobbs and Grace Fleegle and an infant grandson. Survived by wife, the former Ruth (Shaffer) Hostetler; son Bill married to the former Paulette Dove, Maryland and West Virginia; daughter, Phyllis, wife of Frank Lesneski, Florida and Pennsylvania; stepchildren Clarice, wife of Rod Campbell; Barry, married to the former Dorothy Hritz; and Suzanne, wife of Victor Partsch, all of Windber. Also five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren. Brother of Catherine (Cassie), wife of Thomas Johns, Johnstown, also numerous nieces and nephews. Retired from Berwind-White Coal Co., worked in the coal mines for 52 years. Member of UMWA Local 5229. Avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed spending time with his family. For 20 years, Evan and Ruth enjoyed traveling and organizing bus trips in the name of "Riley's Recycled Seniors." Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Meek Funeral Home Inc., Windber, and from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. Member of Grace Lutheran Church, Rummel, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Eric Alm officiating. Interment Custer Cemetery, Hollsopple.
