Preston Ringler, aged 50, son of the late Charles E. and Minnie Walker Ringler, died very suddenly at his home in Hanover, Pa., on Friday, March 10. He and his family moved to Hanover last October where he taught school in the Hanover High School. He was born in Stoneycreek Township and was educated in the rural schools of Somerset County, later graduating from Gettysburg College. He chose teaching as his life's work and taught school in Madison, Wis., in New Jersey, and in Bellefonte, Boswell and Somerset, Pa. He was a teacher in the Somerset High School for 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary (Rishel) Ringler and these children: Harold, Robert, and Mary Ann, all at home. Also his mother, of Berlin, and two sisters, Mrs. Dorsey Barron and Mrs. Budd K. Shaulis, both of Friedens. Mr. Ringler served overseas in World War I as Corporal in Co. G, 319th Inf., 80th Division. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful with many messages of sympathy, as Mr. Ringler was held in the highest esteem in Somerset and in his new home in Hanover. He joined the United Brethren Church in Shanksville in his youth. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., at the Hauger Funeral Home, Somerset. Rev. George Doherty of the United Brethren Church, Hanover, assisted by Rev. W. R. Fisher of the United Brethren Church, Shanksville, officiated. Interment in the Somerset County Memorial Park with military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Meyersdale Republican, March 16, 1944
