Born June 20, 1924, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Earl C. and Lucinda E. (Lowry) Ringler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doretha Jane (Hutzell) Ringler; four brothers: Clyde, Lawrence, Walter and Robert and one sister, Ethel Harding. He is survived by one son, Richard Allan Ringler and wife, Doris, Keyser, W.Va.; three daughters: Patricia Ann Shaffer and husband, Robert, Greensboro, N.C.; Carolyn Weyant, Meyersdale; Janice Lease and husband, Chuck, Cumberland; two brothers: Karl and Harry Ringler, both of Salisbury; two sisters: Anna Marie Anderson, Radford, Va.; Louise Tressler, Salisbury; six grandchildren: Ryan Shaffer, Lori Layton, Jeremy Minnick, Tracy and Amber Weyant and Lydia Ringler and one great-granddaughter, Luna Marie Shaffer. Mr. Ringler was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was Mayor of Salisbury for 13 1/2 years from 1979-1993. He was employed as a dairy farmer and construction worker. A U.S. Army veteran of WWII, he was a staff sergeant in the Army Glider and Paratrooper Unit, 17th Airborne Division. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, having served in three campaigns and one invasion. He organized and was the first and youngest commander in Pennsylvania of the Salisbury V.F.W. post in 1946. He was also a life member of the DAV and member of the 17th Airborne Division Association. He was the first life member and first charter member of the Salisbury VFW, past president of the Grantsville Rotary Club, member of Salisbury American Legion, Meyersdale Elks and constable for Greenville Township for six years. Friends were received Friday at the Newman Funeral home, Inc., Salisbury, where services were conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating. Interment was in Salisbury Cemetery, where military rites were accorded by Salisbury V.F.W. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Diabetes Foundation.
