Roberts, 76, Willison Road, Boswell RD, died unexpectedly April 9, 1999, at home. Born Aug. 21, 1922, in Acosta, son of George A. and Beda E. (Stiffler) Roberts. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Evelyn Ringler; brothers: Gilbert, Ishamel, Arthur, Donald and Paul, and nephew, Gene Roberts. Survived by wife, the former Esther V. Shaulis, and these children: Arthur J., York; Richard L., Steubenville, Ohio; Jeffrey L., married to the former Joy Thomas, Tridelphia, W.Va.; Brenda E., married to James E. Reckner, and Brian A., married to the former Joyce Bittlebrun, both of Boswell RD; also 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Brother of Mona Leighty, Central City; Elton, married to the former Stella Eppley, Olmstead Falls, Ohio; Emma, married to Fred Weimer, Boswell RD; Nancy, married to George Haggedus, Brook Park, Ohio; Dorothy Kissell, Ligonier; Louella, married to Clyde Naugle, Stoystown RD; Delores Strickler, Waterford, and Archie, married to the former Mary Leighty, Parma, Ohio. Faithful member of Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle, Jennerstown, where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and superintendent for many years. Served with the U.S. Army European Theater during World War II, where he received the Purple Heart medal. Retired foreman for Bethlehem Steel Co., Johnstown plant, with 27 years service. Avid painter, gardener and reader. Observed 52nd wedding anniversary Sept. 14, 1998. Friends received from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell. Viewing also from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle, with the Rev. C.J. Ickes and the Rev. Gary Anderson officiating. Interment, Beam Cemetery.
