Roddy, 77, Somerset, went to be with the Lord, Feb. 15, 2008. Born April 29, 1930, in Gray, the son of the late Morris and Nora (Meyers) Roddy. Also preceded in death by his wife, Rachel (Watkins) Roddy; sisters, Ethel Roddy, Ruth Roddy, Mary William, Edna Black; brother, John D. Roddy; and grandson, Bradley Meyers. Survived by son, David C. (Roddy) Ream and wife, Debbie, Portage; and a daughter, Joyce Meyers and husband, Paul, Somerset; grandchildren, Benjamin Meyers and wife, Emily, Piscataway, N.J.; Melissa Meyers, Somerset; Gregory Ream and wife, Theresa, Loretto; Holly Karageanes and husband, Ronald, Johnstown; and David Ream, Pittsburgh; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Abby; sisters, Dorothy Hartman, Windber; and Bernadine Sterner and husband, Warren, Rockwood; and brother, James Roddy and wife, Sue, Dayton, Ohio. Member of Somerset Alliance Church and life member of VFW Post 554, the American Legion, Jenner Rod & Gun Club and UMWA Local 1742, with 50 years of membership. Retired from G.M. & W. Coal Co., having been a coal miner and farmer most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, operating engineers, aviation battalion, having served in England. He enjoyed reading his Bible, talking to friends and giving out "goodies" to others. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, Somerset, where service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. James E. Vandervort officiating. Interment in Mizpah Cemetery. Somerset County Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
