His death was caused by bronchial pneumonia, following a gall bladder operation. His age was 71 years, 11 months and 4 days. He was a son of Heinrich Roden of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Wilhelmina Huppert Roden of Hanover, Switzerland, and was a native of Pennsylvania, and is believed to have been born in Bedford County. In 1895 he was united in marriage with Flora Della Grove whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Grove, lived near Salisbury more than 40 years ago. His wife preceded him in death a long time ago. He is survived by two daughters and a son, namely, Mrs. Alice Louise Stenner of Canton, Ohio, Mrs. Cora Marie Schwab of Washington, D.C., and Harry Roden of West Salisbury. Mr. Roden was a well-known coal miner of the Elk Lick Region for many years, and for about 30 years worked in mines operated by C. K. Bowman. During the last few years, however, he was in poor health, lived all alone near the village of Springs, and cared for some horses for Mr. Bowman during a portion of his time. Funeral services were conducted at 4:30 p.m., at the funeral parlor of Mortician Stanley M. Thomas, Salisbury, by Rev. Ira S. Monn. Interment was in the Salisbury I.O.O.F. Cemetery, under the direction of Mortician Thomas. Meyersdale Republican, October 28, 1943
