Garrett Youth Fatally Injured Young Norman Romesberg Is Killed by Falling Under Wheels of Truck Norman Romesberg, Jr., 17 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Romesberg of Garrett, was fatally injured while working at a stone quarry four miles west of Garrett, operated by his father. According to a report given by Mrs. Emily Fluck, County Coroner, who made an investigation of the accident, young Romesberg was riding on the running board of a truck loaded with three tons of stone. The truck was ascending a steep grade and was traveling at slow speed when the boy leaped to the ground as the vehicle was passing a steam shovel. While the accident was not witnessed by any of the workmen, it is believed that the youth stumbled as he alighted from the vehicle, and fell under one of the rear wheels of the truck which passed over his head, crushing his skull. The truck was operated by Charles Barnhart, of Meyersdale, who was unaware of the accident until he had proceeded some distance along the road. The injured lad was still breathing when he was picked up from the road and was placed in an automobile to be rushed to the Wenzel Hospital in Meyersdale. But he expired before arrival there, and his body was taken to W. C. Price's morgue where it was prepared for burial. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Romesberg and his tragic and untimely death was a great shock to the parents and other relatives. Mrs. Romesberg, who has not been well for some time, collapsed when the sad news was broken to her. Young Norman was a very friendly and likable boy and had many friends. He spent much of his time with his parents and brothers and sisters and was quite a pleasure and comfort to them at all times. He was born in Garrett, May 25th, 1915. He is survived by his parents, three brothers, John, Robert and Scott Romesberg, and two sisters, Elizabeth, at home, and Mrs. George Pyle of Somerset. One sister, Janet, a very bright and attractive girl, died two years ago on the eve of her graduation from the Meyersdale High School. Much sympathy is felt for the family in this, their second sad bereavement in the last two years. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. W. M. Minerd, of Rockwood, pastor of the Garrett Evangelical Church. Interment was made in Grandview Cemetery, Garrett, with Undertaker W. C. Price in charge of the arrangements. An older brother of Norman, Robert Romesberg, met with an accident about two weeks ago which almost proved fatal, also, when he was caught in the gears of a road-building machine at Hooversville, and had his back and one arm bruised very severely.
