Born July 1, 1905, in Garrett, the son of Madison Romesberg and Lelia (Wechtenheiser) Romesberg. Preceded in death by his sisters, Olivette (Newman), Savilla (Bittner), Mabel (Walters), Laura (Barefoot), Ruth (Meyers), and two brothers, Leonard Romesberg and M. Woodrow Romesberg. Survived by his wife of 73 years, Eleanor Jesse (Tedrow) Romesberg; sisters, Juel (Romesberg) of Warren, Ohio, Ester (McDonald) of Florida, and June (Pritts) of Garrett. Christian father of Samuel James Romesberg Jr., married to Ruth (Janus), Jack T. Romesberg, married to Marjorie Jean (Phillips), and Roger L. Romesberg, married to Martha Jean (Morgan), all of Rockwood. Grandchildren include Samuel J. Romesberg III, Amy Sloan, Jack M. Romesberg, Joan Alcorn, Jeff Romesberg, Jill A. Luster, Roger L. Romesberg Jr., Melinda Hochard, and Matthew Romesberg. Also survived by 24 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church of Rockwood where he held offices on Church Council and other church groups. He was a coal miner/operator, farmer, stonemason and blacksmith who applied his skills later in life to the construction of Piney Run and Middlecreek golf courses where he also served as greens keeper. He owned and operated Glade Run Trailer Park on his farm for 20 years. He was a charter member of the Rockwood Sportsmen's Club where he held various offices as well as managed the propagation of ringneck pheasants for the club. He and his wife, Eleanor, enjoyed travel and had visited each of the 50 states together. They were both members of the Rockwood Grange and had attained the highest degree. An avid outdoorsman who treasured his time afield, he was a Triple Trophy Hunter, having harvested a turkey, buck and bear in one season. He was a charter member of Three Pine Camp in Renova, having hunted there for 70 years. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, Rockwood. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Reformed Church, Rockwood. Rev. Kenneth Davis officiating. Interment at Rockwood I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
