Born Nov. 22, 1925 in Ligonier, daughter of Earl B. and Margaret Irene (Kinsey) Bates. Preceded in death by parents, and son-in-law, Curtis E. Knupp, on Sept. 6, 1996. Survived by husband, John W.; daughter, Helen Knupp, Orlando, Fla.; sister, Doris, wife of Robert Jenkins, Ligonier; brother, Dr. James Bates and wife Laura Lou, Philadelphia; and a number of nieces and nephews. Member of Faith Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Gray. Observed 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 13, 1998. Owned and operated the former Rose's Slaughter Shop and Rose's Sports Shop near Gray until 1994. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Arnold G. Ansell officiating.
