Born Dec. 10, 1913, in Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County. Son of the late James Lawrence and Alma Christina (Dahl) Rose. Preceded in death by his wife, the former Doris C. Riggs, on March 17, 1984; 2 daughters: Janice M. Rose and Cynthia A. Rose; 4 brothers: Edwin, James, Elwood and Albert Rose. Survived by these children: Walter R. Rose Jr., married to the former Beverley Ann Barngrover. Somerset RD 1; William E. Rose, married to the former Debora Gohn, Somerset RD 4; Kathryn Rose Schrock, wife of Lloyd J. Butler of Rockwood RD 2. Also 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Brother of Mrs. Donald (Esther) Koch of Greensburg; Mrs. Bessie Walbaum, Ligonier, and Mrs. Sylvia Miller, Eagle Rock, Calif.; Mrs. Alma Shepard, Mayville, N.Y.; Lawrence C. Rose of Hixson, Tenn., and Wilbert Rose and Allen Rose, both of Ligonier RD 2. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Somerset. Attended the University of Pittsburgh. He had formerly been a maintenance foreman for the Clairton Works of U.S. Steel Corp. for 19 years and was a retired Milford Township dairy farmer. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Rockwood, Rev. Clarence C. Moore officiating. Interment, Rockwood IOOF Cemetery. No viewing at the church.
