She was struck by a car just 15 minutes before. She had been at the home of a girl friend across the McMullen Highway from her own home, and was on her way to a parked car to ride into Cumberland with friends to see the Allegany-Somerset football game. Just as she reached the edge of the highway she was hit by an automobile operated by Ralph Allen Schlosser, 21, of Cresaptown. Mrs. Rosenberger was standing on the front porch and saw her daughter struck by the car, but could not give any definite details to Trooper Barton. The right front fender of Schlosser's car struck the girl and her body was catapulted against the right edge of the windshield. Her body was left lying along the edge of the highway and a passing motorist, Harold Hollis, a driver for the Potomac Edison Bus Company, stopped and took her to the hospital. Schlosser stayed at the scene of the accident until Trooper Barton arrived. Dr. Benedict Skitarelic, acting deputy county medical examiner, said the girl died from a fractured skull and inter-cranial hemorrhages. She also suffered a fractured left ankle and abrasions about the face and body. Trooper Barton said Schlosser was not held, but would be questioned, Monday morning, at the States Attorney's office. The girl is survived by her parents, a brother, John, her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ella Painter, Mt. Jackson, Va., and her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Beachy of Grantsville. Her brother was injured several months ago when struck by a car on McMullen Highway and it was reported she was hit while riding a bike about two weeks ago. Doris was born in Grantsville. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in St. Mark's Reformed Church, Cumberland, followed by interment in the Grantsville cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, September 25, 1947
