Born Aug. 2, 1903, in Lavansville. Daughter of George and Ida (Dickey) Hoover. Preceded in death by parents; husbands, Herman L. Oaks and Cletus E. "Bucky" Ross; daughters, Betty Jane Oaks and Jo Ann Matse; sisters Gladys Spriggs, Jennie Mae Beeman and Myrtle Bell; brothers Royden and Earl Hoover. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survived by these children: Robert Oaks, married to the former Naomi Reckner, Jerome; Terry "Shuta" Oaks, married to the former Betty Thomas, of Hollsopple; Billie Sue Zapolosky, with whom she resided; and Jack Oaks, married to the former Marion Koffman, Cairnbrook; and son-in-law George Matse of Boswell; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was a former waitress at the former Hite Hotel in Stoystown and White Star Hotel in Jennerstown. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. James McCormick officiating.
