Paul Roth a War Casualty Went Down With Plane Somewhere in African War Zone Capt. Paul F. Roth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Roth of New Philadelphia, Ohio, was killed in an airplane crash in the African war area on October 29th. Mrs. Elva Garlets Roth, graduate of Somerset High School and former teacher in Berlin-Brothersvalley High School, Berlin, Pa., and now living with her parents in Buffalo, N.Y., was notified of her husband's death by telegram from the War Department, but details of the casualty were not given. The young man, who received his captain's commission several months ago was called into service March 15, and sent abroad May 21st. Previously the Roths had made their home in Tampa, Fla., where Capt. Roth was a chief pilot with the Eastern Air Lines on a passenger flight from Tampa to Chicago. Capt. Roth was in the Air Corps ferry command and for the past few months had been stationed near the battle areas in India, China, Palestine and Egypt. He was a graduate of Heidelberg College, Tiffin, Ohio, in 1934. Mrs. Roth is a sister to Mrs. William Taylor of Salisbury, and both she and the Captain are well known throughout Somerset County.
