Royer, native of Garrett County, Md., died May 9, 1940, in the Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 14 days. He was born in 1857 at Spring Valley Farm near Keyser Ridge, the twelfth son of John and Eliza Shultz Royer, and is the last of the 12 children to pass to his eternal home. He was a Lutheran minister for 45 years, preaching at Accident, Md., Mt. Carmel, W.Va., Clearspring, Md., Florence, Ky., and Greenford, Ohio, where he retired at the age of 78 years on account of ill health. About four years ago, upon arriving home from a visit with his daughter, Mrs. George Davis, of Somerville, N.J., and other relatives in the East, he suffered a slight stroke of paralysis. Recently he was stricken again with a severe stroke and following that developed pneumonia which proved fatal in a few days. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Anna Belle Augustine Royer, and two daughters, Mrs. Leona Davis of Somerfield, N.J., and Mrs. Mabel Judd of Milford, Ohio, five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at Monru funeral home on Saturday, May 11, 1940 at 2:30. Rev. Spies of Norwood, Ohio, and three other Lutheran ministers and the Methodist minister of Milford, Ohio, assisted in conducting a very suitable and splendid funeral service. He was laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Milford, Ohio. Meyersdale Republican, May 23, 1940
