RUMGAY William Anthony Rumgay died suddenly at 11:30 a.m., on Sunday, January 20th, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Rumgay of 415 Center St. He was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Rumgay enlisted in the Army before the outbreak of war and was stationed for five years in Puerto Rico, where he advanced to the rank of warrant officer. He received a medical discharge last March and was hospitalized in Puerto Rico for six months. He returned here in September. He was born in Meyersdale on Apr. 10, 1915, a son of Andrew J. and Maude (Foy) Rumgay. Besides his parents, he leaves his wife Mrs. Maria Teresa de Ferrer Rumgay, whom he married while stationed in Puerto Rico, and two children - William Jr. and Theresa. His widow and children are in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She was planning to join her husband here in April and they expected to make their future home here in Meyersdale. He is survived by three brothers, James Rumgay, who was recently discharged from the Army and returned home last Saturday; Andrew Rumgay, Jr., of Cumberland, Md., and Parker Rumgay, who also served in World War II; two sisters, Eleanor and Marguerite, and a niece, Brenda, at home. He was a grandson of Mrs. Mary Foy, who had three sons and several grandsons in the late war. Funeral services were conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday in SS. Philip & James Catholic Church by Rev. Father Thomas J. Houghton. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery under direction of the R. Reich & Son funeral service. Military last rites were conducted at the cemetery by veterans of World Wars I and II, numbering about 20. World War II veterans who acted as pall bearers were Charles Foy, Daniel Raymond, William Raymond, Frank Staub, Patsy Tuscano and Joe Henicksman, and as honorary pall bearers, Joe Walsh, Tony Corbacci, Charles Darrah and Fred D'Amico.
