(Somerset, Pa.): June 16, 1880 On Saturday morning, June 12, at his residence in New Centreville, William Scott, Esq., in the 73d year of his age. Mr. Scott was born in 1807, in Milford township, and has resided there and in New Centreville nearly all his life. When about 25 years of age he engaged, for a couple of years, in business at Pittsburgh. He served as Justice of the Peace for twenty-five years, five terms. He was a surveyor known for correct work, and was good counsel for men in business affairs. He was one of the six original Abolitionists, who voted for Birney in 1844. A member of the Disciples’ church for forty-six years, he leaves the reputation of a Christian gentleman to his descendants. A widow and a large family of grown-up sons and daughters survive him, among whom are John R., Esq., Dr. Evans T., A. W., Clerk of the Courts of Harrison County, Ohio; David and Lervy. His family were all gathered at his bedside shortly before his death, some of them coming from far Western States. Squire Scott was well known throughout the county of Somerset, and very many old friends and neighbors are pained at his taking off, although he lived to a ripe age, and died as a just and honorable man.
