 The Somerset herald. (Somerset, Pa.): May 19, 1880
On Friday. April 30th, 1880, Tobias Shaffer, at his residence in Somerset township,
in the 69th year of his age. The deceased was a soldier during the war, having
enlisted in the 54th Reg’t. Pa. Vols, at its formation. His comrades speak of him as
a brave and efficient man. At his desire he was carried to the grave by a number of
soldiers. An immense number of people were in the funeral procession, which took
place on Sunday, 2d of May.
