Semerset township's most venerable citizen
John Shaffer died at his home five miles east of here on Saturday morning last,
in his ninetieth year. "Long" John as he was familiarly called owing to his
unusual stature-about six feet two inches-was well and favorably known all over
the county. He was a man of extraordinary physical strength, and was a stranger
to sickness up until a short time before his death. Mr. Shaffer was born and
always lived on the farm on which he died. He is survived by two sons and three
daughters.
