"Long" John as he was familiarly called owing to his unusual stature-about six feet two inches-was well and favorably known all over the county. He was a man of extraordinary physical strength, and was a stranger to sickness up until a short time before his death. Mr. Shaffer was born and always lived on the farm on which he died. He is survived by two sons and three daughters.
