Meyersdale, The Republic Thu, Feb 29, 1912 
Mrs. Israel Shockey (Sarah Shultz), one of the best known residents of
Greenville township was found dead in bed last Friday morning by her little
grandson, Edison Shockey, who went to call her. She was a daughter of the late
Daniel Shultz and was born in Greenville township where she spent her entire
life. She was 65 years, 2 months and 6 days old. Her husband preceded her to the
grave about six years ago. She is survived by seven children living and four
dead. Those living are Levi, Henry, Irvin, Mrs. Wm. M. Nicholson, Mrs. P. W.
White, Mrs. Simon Keefer and Miss Gertrude Shockey, teaching school at Vim in
Summit township.
She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Joseph, Abraham and
Daniel Shultz of Meyersdale; Levi Shultz, Berkley's Mill; Cyrus J. Shultz,
Rockwood; Balsam Shultz, Indiana; Peter Shultz, Berlin; Mrs. Oliver Bird, Mrs.
Charles Askey and Wm. David Griffith.
The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Hochstetler Church of
the Brethren of which she was a life-long member. The services were conducted by
Eld. E. K. Hochstetler, assisted by Rev. L. P. Young. She was laid to rest by
the side of her husband in the Hochstetler cemetery. The funeral was largely
attended by relatives and friends. Resolutions of respect were adopted by the
church of which she was a member paying a high tribute to her worth as a
Christian mother, a friend and a neighbor.
