Born Sept. 9, 1931, in Dubuque, Iowa, he is the son of the late Alvin Ernst and Genevieve (Duccini) Sanders. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Quirk; and brother, Alvin Sanders. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Lipovsky) Sanders, Somerset; son, Mark Richard Sanders and wife, Aileen (Connolly), Pittsburgh; daughter, Gretchen Patricia Cetti and husband, Gregory Joseph Cetti, Pittsburgh; granddaughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Sanders; sister, Mary Boyle, Racine, Wis.; brothers, John Sanders, Sarasota, Fla.; and Thomas Sanders, Henderson, Nev.; and sister-in-law, Loretta Sanders, Milwaukee. He was a retired English teacher in the Somerset School District who continued to tutor students for many years. He also taught at Westmoreland County Community College and Mount Aloysius College. He was a graduate of Marquette University with a Masters Degree in Divinity, Theology and Philosophy. He loved to read and study literature and poetry. He wrote a poetry column for the Daily American for the past 10 years. His goal was to teach others to enjoy and love poetry as much as he. He was active in the Somerset County Food Pantry. He was a member of St. Peter's Church in Somerset where he served as lector and was a member of the St. Peter's Knights of Columbus. He was an avid coin collector who belonged to the local coin club in Somerset. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 2 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Church. Monsignor Samuel Tomaselli celebrant. Interment at St. John the Evangelist Church cemetery in Connellsville. Memorial contributions may be sent to Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, P.O.
