He is survived by his wife, Ella Saylor; four sons, Homer of Carleton, Nebr.; Lloyd of Los Angeles, Calif.; Galen of Lincoln, Nebr., and Elbert of Tucson, Ariz.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Maude Spolm of Hutchinson, Kan.; a sister, Mrs. Susan Ebaugh of Meyersdale, Pa.; three brothers, Newton and Edward of Meyersdale and Simon of Waterloo, Ia.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son, Harold, preceded him in death. John Oliver was the son of William and Kate (Phillippi) Saylor. His boyhood days were spent at the family home on Saylor Hill adjoining Meyersdale. He went to Nebraska in the spring of 1888. Later he went to Waterloo, Ia., and then to Morrill, Kan., finally returning to Nebraska in 1891, where he purchased a farm near Carleton and spent the remainder of his life there until he retired and moved to Carleton in 1944. On February 2, 1899, he married Miss Amanda Ellen Rathrock, daughter of Elder E. S. and Susan Rathrock. Mrs. Saylor died in 1912 and, in 1913, he married Ella ?utzman Eash who survives. Mr. Saylor was a faithful member of the Church of the Brethren, Bethel, Nebr., where he served as Sunday School teacher, superintendent and deacon in the church. Funeral service was held at the Bethel Church, Thursday, Feb. 21, with the Rev. Foster Meyers officiating. Interment was made in Bethel Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, March 10, 1949
