Homer Saylor, native of Meyersdale, died at his home in Oakland, Calif., August 5, after an illness of several months. He was born Sept. 4, 1880, a son of the late William and Catherine (Seiby) Saylor, on the Saylor Hill farm, overlooking Meyersdale. He spent his boyhood there, taught school for several years, then became a clerk in Miller and Collins department store for a short time before he set off for the West. He settled in Oakland, where he became prosperous as owner and manager of the Saylor Parchment Printing Company, in the production of dairy and poultry supplies, such as shipping labels and tags, wrappers and containers. Through the years he made occasional visits to his Meyersdale relatives, his last visit being about this time last summer. He is survived by his wife, one sister, Mrs. J. R. Ebaugh of Meyersdale R.D. 1; and four brothers, Oliver Saylor, Carleton, Nebr.; Simon Saylor, Waterloo, Iowa; Newton Saylor, Meyersdale R.D. 2, and Edward Saylor, living with his sister, Mrs. Ebaugh. Two brothers, Milton of Meyersdale R.D. 1, and William of Sacramento, Calif., preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Lloyd J. B. Taoer and Rev. Elizabeth Zartman. The services included organ music by Miss Esther Hjelte and cello music by Margaret Avery Rowell. His resting place is the California Crematorium. Meyersdale Republican, August 21, 1947
