A lifetime resident of Somerset County, William was born on July 9, 1938, and is preceded in death by parents, Mabel Gertrude (Pyle) Saylor and Oren Franklin Saylor, sister, Lena Pearl Saylor, and brothers, Franklin Saylor, Glenn Robert Saylor, and James Pyle Saylor. Survived by his wife of 41 years, Lois Jean (Shaulis) Saylor, and his daughter, Barbara Jean (Saylor) Simon, and son-in-law, Benjamin Kenneth Simon, Esq., both of Alexandria, Va. Also survived by his sister, Marian Grace (Saylor) Baker of Fayetteville, Ark. Three feline family members and a beloved feral cat colony remain in the care of Mrs. Lois Saylor. Received an honorable discharge from the United States Army in August 1963, and in 1998, then Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen awarded him a certificate of recognition for distinguished service to his country during the Cold War. After 25 years of Employment with PBS Coal Inc., retired in 1995. In addition to being an avid outdoor sportsman, he was a member of the National Rifle Association. A memorial service for family and friends will be officiated by Rev. William J. Dodson at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Somerset Christian Fellowship, following a private interment ceremony at Weller Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to In Touch Hospice, a nonprofit program of Somerset Community Hospital. Daily American, February 4, 2002 [S0345]
