Born January 5, 1942 in Meyersdale. A son of the late Webster and Viola (Boyer) Schafer. Also preceded in death by his brother, Dale Schafer; and brothers-in-law: Ron Yutzy and Terry Kelly. Survived by his wife of 35 years, Jeri (Schrock) Schafer; and three children: Erik Schafer, and his wife, Christie; Victoria, wife of Travis Donica; and Aaron Schafer, all of Meyersdale. Five grandchildren: Ethan, Emily and Evan Schafer; Tristan and Devin Donica. A brother of Duane Schafer, and his wife, Judy; Barry Schafer, and his wife, Jane; Shelby Yutzy; and Sandy Kelly; all of Meyersdale; and Sharon, wife of Ross Rumbaugh, Lancaster. Devon was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in Korea. He attended Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church, where he served as financial secretary for 30 years. He was an accountant at Somerset State Hospital, and SCI-Laurel Highlands, where he retired in 1999. He managed and coached many different baseball teams, from Little League, Jr. and Sr. Legion, and high school. Friends were received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Price Funeral Home Meyersdale. Service was conducted at Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church Thursday, with the Rev. Randy Haulk officiating.
