Schaff, 98, of Rockwood, died Dec. 1, 1993, at his residence. Born Oct. 10, 1895, in Kearney, Neb. Son of the late Hagress D. and Minnie (Moore) Schaff. Survived by his wife, the former Kathryn Gundrum, to whom he was married for 47 years. Member of the First Christian Church of Somerset. A veteran of World War I, serving as state Army commander and over the years occupied various posts at the national level. Member of Rockwood Legion Post 279, OX5 Aviation Pioneers, and the State Veterans Commission. A civic-minded individual, he served the community of Rockwood as mayor for over 20 years. A member of the Rockwood Rotary Club, having recently been honored for 50 years of perfect attendance. Served on the Salvation Army and American Cancer Society boards and was a life member of the Somerset County Historical and Genealogical Society. He was a graduate of Kiski Prep School and attended Washington and Jefferson College. He was employed by Westinghouse in Pittsburgh and later with the Rockwood Floral Co. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Christian Church, with the Rev. William Sleasman officiating. Interment, New Centerville Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Somerset "In Touch" Hospice, 651 S. Center Ave., Somerset, Pa. Arrangements under the direction of the Hauger-Ziegler Funeral Home.
