Schardt, 44, of Salisbury St., died Friday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m., in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md., where he had been a patient for three weeks. He was a son of John and Catherine (Pfeiffer) Schardt and was born on July 7, 1900. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace (Engle) Schardt; two children, James S. and Jean Margaret, both at home; his mother who resides here, and four brothers and four sisters - John A., Mooween, Pa.; William, Herbert T. and Richard S., all of Meyersdale; Mrs. R. A. Critchfield, Neversink, N.Y.; Mrs. James Judge, McKeesport; Mrs. Fred Miller, Perry, Fla., and Mrs. John Hare, Denver, Colo. Requiem mass was conducted at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning at SS. Philip & James Catholic Church by Rev. Father Thomas J. Houghton. A brief religious service was also held at the Schardt home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Owing to the prevailing snow storm the road to the cemetery was impassable and the remains were therefore taken to the Price morgue to await interment after the storm.
