Born Sept. 23, 1917 in Meyersdale, son of the late John A. and Mary Frances (Bowers) Schardt. Widower of Mary E. Breig. Survived by these children, Robert Jr., married to the former Marjorie Mazer, with whom he lived, York, and Mary E. (Betzie), wife of James Elliott, Harrisburg, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Also survived by sister, Jean (Schardt) LaRue, Meyersdale. Member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, York. Retired employee of the Caterpillar Corp. Veteran of World War II and a member of the Pleasureville V.F.W. 799. Friends received from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Philip and James Catholic Church, where funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. with Father James S. Bunn. Interment, St. Philip and James Cemetery under the direction of Leckemby Funeral Home. The family suggests contributions to be made to the American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
