Scheffel, 85, formerly of RD 1, Grantsville, Md. died Jan. 12, 1980 in the Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital. He was born in Stuttgart, Ark., and was a son of the late Anton Scheffel and Catherine (Nafzinger) Scheffel. His wife, Mrs. Annie (Miller) Scheffel, died in 1978. Scheffel was a member of the Maple Glen Conservative Mennonite Church. He is survived by five sons, Clarence Scheffel, McVeytown, Pa.; Jonas Scheffel and Paul Scheffel, both of Somerset, Pa.; David Scheffel, New Providence, Pa.; John Scheffel, Adamstown; one stepson, Alvin Eichorn, Frostburg; one daughter, Mrs. Catherine (Joseph) King, Cochranville, two stepdaughters, Mrs. Sarah (Ernest) Mast, Grantsville, Md.; Mrs. Vera (Elvin) Beitzel, Salisbury, one brother, Chris Scheffel, Halsey, Ore.; 39 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home. Services were conducted in Maple Glen Conservative Mennonite Church with the Rev. Ivan J. Maust and the Rev. Ivan J. Miller officiating.
