Schmidt, 68, of Derry RD 1, died Wednesday Dec. 18, 1985, at Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Nov. 3, 1917, in Rockwood, and was the son of the late Anton and Katherine (Kline) Schmidt. Mr. Schmidt was a member of the Hillside United Methodist Church, where he was president of the United Methodist Men. He belonged to the Lamonte* Lodge #568 F&AM, Derry. He was employed by Kennametal Inc., Chestnut Ridge plant until his retirement in Jan. 1983. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Air Force. Surviving are his wife, Eileen Dixon Schmidt; a son, Charles Edward of Minneapolis, Minn.; a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Wendy) Thomas, of Oil City; also three brothers, Anthony and John, both of Somerset RD 6; William, of Champion; and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Sleasman, of Rockwood; Mrs. Elizabeth Hauger and Mrs. Ann Shaulis, both of Somerset RD 6; and Mrs. Nellie Martell, of Sharon. Family will receive friends today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Richard L. Shoemaker Funeral Home, Blairsville, where services will be held Saturday, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Raymond P. Kerr officiating. Interment will follow at the Blairsville Cemetery.
