A lifelong resident of Somerset, born in Tyrone, Pa. on Sept. 27, 1911 and moved to Somerset as a young girl. Her formal name was "Elizabeth Carolyn Cassler" but she preferred "Betty". Her parents John R. and Elizabeth (Baker) Cassler formerly of 402 W. Patriot St. Last surviving child and preceded by John Jr., Austin, Howard, and Billie. As a young girl she was an accomplished piano player. She played at the old Park-K Theatre during the silent movies. She had two songs that she played action scenes loud and fast and love scenes slow and quiet. She later played organ and piano for Somerset Presbyterian and Trinity Lutheran churches. She graduated from Somerset High School in 1929. She was employed as a secretary for the State Highway Department, then she met Clark Tennyson Schrock Sr. and was married on Clark's 28th birthday on Aug. 22, 1935. As a full time house wife, she raised five children: Clark Jr., Andover, N.J.; Mary Alyce Gneuhs (deceased) formerly of Chicago, Ill.; John William "Whitey", Friedens, Pa.; Joseph Austin, Vienna, Va.; and Ronald Lewis, Somerset, Pa. Survived by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was an avid bridge player. She formerly resided on Smith St. and Siemons Lakeside Manor. A major milestone in her life was the celebration of her 50th wedding anniversary in August 1985 at son Ron's home (formerly Miller's Orchard). There were pictures, flowers, food and over 125 family friends and well wishers. Donations can be sent in her name to Trinity Lutheran Church, 918 Tayman Ave., Somerset, Pa. 15501. Funeral arrangements by Halverson Funeral Home. No visitation. Interment to be at Somerset County Memorial Park. A memorial service to be held 1 p.m. Saturday Feb. 5, 1994 in Trinity Lutheran Church.
