Schrock, 81, of Grantsville, Md., died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Born December 9, 1923, at Grantsville, she was the daughter of the late Ezra and Amanda (Yoder) Yoder. She was preceded in death by four brothers: Walter, Rufus, Irvin and Crist; three sisters: Anna, Elizabeth and Frieda. Surviving are her husband, Simon E. Schrock; twin brothers: Cloyd, Meyersdale; Floyd, Accident, Md.; sisters: Sara, wife of Fred Yoder, Chesapeake, Va.; Pauline (Polly), wife of Simon N. Schrock, Fairfax, Va. Elsie received Christ as her personal Savior in her youth, and was received into the church by baptism. She was a faithful lifelong member of Mtn. View Church. Simon and Elsie were united in marriage on June 23, 1946. They began their life together on a farm near Grantsville. While on the farm, they opened their home to Fresh Air Children who came from the inner city to enjoy fresh air and country living. From the farm, they accepted the call of Christ through the Church to serve in a mission assignment at Berlin, Germany, from April 1958 to March 1961. From Germany, it was back to the farm until another call from the Church took them to Hillcrest Nursing Home, Harrison, Ark. Their service there, from 1966 to 1974, touched the lives of many people. They returned to Grantsville again, built a home, and served at Goodwill Mennonite Home, where Simon was Administrator and Elsie worked in the kitchen. During this time, they cared for Elsie's mother in their home until her death in 1979. In 1982, the call of the Church took them to Paraguay, South America, where they served for three years, returning again to Grantsville in 1985. From there they accepted another call to the Blue Ridge Christian Home for Elderly at Stuarts Draft, Va. In 1989, they made their final return to Grantsville. Elsie did volunteer work at the World's Attic, Somerset, and at Goodwill Mennonite Home. She was known for her successful green thumb in the garden and flower bed, her even tempered friendliness expressed with excellent hospitality. Her robust activities ended at the time of her cancer surgery in January 2005. On Sunday, near the last steps of her journey, she was asked how she thought heaven will be. She replied, "It is more than words can say". It's beyond our expectations! She lifted her hand and said, "Dear Lord, touch and heal my body". You are the Great Physician! And thus, Elsie Schrock left us to enter her Eternal Home where healing came beyond death's door. Friends were received from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville. Services were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday (today) at Mountain View Mennonite Church with Pastors Jerry Yoder, Paul Miller, Melvin Bontrager and Edwin Weaver officiating.
