William Arthur Scott, 76, 2925 Walnut Ave., Juniata, (Altoona), died April 9, 1998 at Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital. Born Feb. 16, 1921 in Juniata, the son of William F. and Ruth (McGarvey) Scott. He married Helen M. Schuh on Nov. 29, 1945 in Altoona. Member of the 58th Street United Methodist Church, Broad Avenue; United Methodist Church and the Altoona Ministerium. Began his ministry by founding South Altoona Baptist Church (now Faith Baptist Church) and pastored there for eight 1/2 years. Also during that time, he taught in the Altoona Area School District. Following that, he worked for the state as an adjudicator for the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation and a supervisor for Social Security in Harrisburg. Rev. Scott retired from Central Pennsylvania United Methodist Conference, having served at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Harrisburg; Runnville United Methodist Charge with three churches; two Mexico/Locust Run, where he pastored two churches; Enola, pasturing Young's and Mount Zion United Methodist churches and Loganville United Methodist Charge. Retired from Grace United Methodist Church, Enola; then returned to Altoona and served as chaplain reverend at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home for 12 years. Was ordained an elder in the United Methodist Conference June 13, 1975. Rev. Scott was a 1939 graduate of Altoona High School; a 1951 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in commerce and finance and a graduate of Denver Conservative Baptist Seminary. Worked for Pennsylvania Railroad from 1939 to 1949. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Field Artillery Unit of 1t Armored Division in the North African-European Theater, where he was awarded five Bronze Stars. Member of the American Legion. Surviving are his wife; two sons: Jeffrey A. of Pittsburgh and N. Craig of Altoona; a sister, Vivian Rainey of Mahaffey and four grandchildren. Friends were received Monday evening at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Juniata, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Tom Irwin, assisted by the Rev. Jeffrey W. Welsch.
