Scull, born Aug. 20, 1924, in Somerset, was the only child of Edward Scull Sr., a local banker, and Nina Woloshuk, an artist. Family members include his wife, Madelon (Lennie) and four children from a previous marriage, Suzanne Scull Trzcienski, Edward Scull Jr. (killed in a plane crash in 1981), Elizabeth (Lisa) Long Scull, Timothy Taylor Scull; two stepchildren, Frank Cunningham, Victoria Cunningham Murphy; four grandchildren, Aime Trzcienski Franco, Torrey Trzcienski, Justin Edward Scull, Taylor C. Scull; a step grandson, Jameson Case; and two great-grandsons, Nikolaus and Emilo Franco. For more than 40 years, Dr. Scull served as a director and director emeritus of Somerset Trust Co., an institution founded by his family and which continues to be operated by the Scull/Cook descendents. In 1942, Scull graduated from Haverford School, Haverford, where he was on the swim team, rowed on the varsity crew and captained the football team. He graduated from Princeton University in 1946 and served in the U.S. Army before attending Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. Dr. Scull served his internship and residency at Jefferson before moving to New York City's Bellevue Hospital with a fellowship in Rheumatology. He then went into private practice in Hartford, Conn., and was involved in many of Hartford's community health services. He also served on the boards of many foundations. At the age of 58, Dr. Scull retired to Nevis, West Indies, where he spent many years raising rare fruits and orchids and traveled to collect plants and seeds from around the world. In 2001, he and his wife, Lennie, moved from Nevis to Glenmoor Retirement Village in St. Augustine, Fla. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Crichton Hall, located at Glenmoor Community Center in the World Golf Village.
