    James E. Scurfield, 64, Berlin, died Nov. 20, 2007, in Berlin. Born Dec. 28, 1942, in
  Somerset, the son of William Edward  and Mary Catherine (Walker) Scurfield. Preceded in
  death by parents, and a brother, William Walker Scurfield. Survived by his wife of  45
  years, the former Jane Hoffman;  children, Scott, married to the former Janine Leonard,
  Cary, N.C.; Rick, married to the former Michelle Hondal, Bethsda, Md.; and  Sue, married
  to Greg Walker, Berlin;  Very special grandchildren, Alec and Vaughn Scurfield, Nicolas,
  Dominic  and Juliana Scurfield, and Tanner and Keegan Walker; nephew, Heath Scurfield; 
  former sister-in-law, Karen Hillegass and her children, Kami Wheeler and Brock Hillegass
  and families; and an aunt, Barbara Landis. He will be missed by his faithful companion,
  Harry. A 1960 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School and attended California
  University of Pa. Owner of Scurfield Coal Inc. and former owner/operator of Hillside
  Sporting Clays. He was the mayor of Berlin. Member of  Holy Trinity Lutheran Church,
  Berlin.  A lifetime member of the NRA. Member the Wild Turkey Federation,  the Berlin
  Sportsmen's Club, North Branch Hunting Club and the Berlin Fire Department. He loved the
  outdoors, and hunting and fishing, especially with his grandchildren. He was the
  founder and host  of Berlin Adult Day Care. A memorial  service will be held at 1 p.m.
  Saturday at the Scurfield family cabin, Macdonaldton, with  Fellowship following at
  Hillside Lodge. Pastor  Gene Oburn and Pastor Tom Sprowls Jr. officiating. No flowers
  please, contributions  may be given to the Humane Society of Somerset County, P.O. Box
  182, Somerset, PA 15501. Arrangements by Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin.
