Sechler, 101, of Somerset, and a life-long resident of Somerset County, died Jan. 2, 1998 at Patriot Manor, Somerset. Born Oct. 15, 1896 in Milford Township, a daughter of the late Charles G. and Cora (Schrock) Sechler. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Charles G., and Claude and a sister, Althea Scott, and 2 infant siblings. Survived by 3 nieces, Shirley Ann Dwyer, San Jose, Calif.; Lois Jane Vaughn, Monaca; Janet Berkey, Somerset, and 2 nephews, Donald Sechler, Somerset, and Charles R. Sechler, Haverstraw, N.Y., also a number of great-nieces and nephews. Member of New Centerville Church of God where she taught Sunday School for many years. A 1924 graduate of the West Penn School of Nursing, she worked at West Penn Hospital and later at Somerset Community Hospital, where she served as director of nursing. Founding member of the Somerset Registered Nurses Association and served as a nurse for the late Dr. Charles C. Barchfield until his death. Then she worked for 8 years as a private duty nurse. In addition to her nursing career, she worked as a teacher at the former Southside Elementary School in Somerset, the Weimer School, Shaft School, and Middlecreek School. She started teaching at the age of 17 after obtaining her teaching certificate at the New Centerville Normal School. A private funeral service was held Sunday at the New Centerville Church of God with the Rev. Tim Show officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
