Beam Sellers, 66, a retired businessman of Somerset, of outstanding character and accomplishments, passed away at his home on North Center Ave., Tuesday evening. He had been a semi-invalid for several years. He was a native of Meyersdale, born April 29, 1877, a son of Nelson and Susan (Beam) Sellers. His mother died when he was only nine years old. He was reared in the home of his uncle, Elder Urias Braucher, a minister of the Church of the Brethren, who lived near Somerset. His educational advantages were limited to the public schools of Meyersdale and Somerset, but he was an apt pupil and an inveterate and discriminating reader, and acquired a literary education far above the average. Among his varied accomplishments was that of writing some very creditable poems. He was an interesting conversationalist and took a keen interest in all moral and spiritual affairs pertaining to the welfare of his fellowman. He was active in church and Sunday school work and for many years taught the Ladies Bible class in the Somerset Church of the Brethren. At the age of 12 years he entered the employ of Ferner Bros. who conducted one of the leading shoe stores in Somerset for many years. He remained with that firm for 43 years as a salesman and store manager. In 1915 he married Miss Marian Ferner, only daughter of Albert H. Ferner, one of his employers. For four years after his father-in-law's death, he was in full charge of the management of the Ferner store, until he retired owing to failing health. Surviving are his wife and one son, Capt. Alvin Ferner Sellers, now serving overseas, and two brothers - Eugene M. Sellers, Glendale, Cal., and Harry N. Sellers, Flint, Mich., and a sister, Mrs. Martha Springer, Abilene, Kansas. Funeral services at 2:30 o'clock this Thursday afternoon at the home of Rev. Galen R. Blough, pastor of the Somerset Church of the Brethren. Interment in Union Cemetery, Meyersdale, under the direction of Walter S. Hoffman, Somerset mortician. Meyersdale Republican, December 30, 1943
