Shafer, aged 51, died at his home on South Center Ave., Somerset, at 11:15 o'clock Monday morning. He had been in failing health for two years and had been bedfast for two weeks. A son of Charles C. and Eliza (Crissey) Shafer, he was born in Somerset, Aug. 6, 1892. He was well known as a musician and vocalist. He was a member of the Al Fields' minstrel troupe for many years, and also played with an orchestra in Altoona theatres for some time. Surviving are a brother, Eugene Clifford Shafer, Pittsburgh, and five sisters - Mrs. Lulu Weimer and Mrs. Bertha Landis, both of Somerset; Marian Shafer, at home; Mrs. Laredo Rauch, Somerset, and Mrs. Vida Nicholson, Tucson, Ariz. Funeral services were conducted at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon by Rev. B. F. Bungard, D.D., pastor of the Somerset United Brethren Church. Burial in Union Cemetery.
