Shafer, 66, Mountain Lake Park, died Monday, June 29, in West Virginia University Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. Born July 20, 1920, in Meyersdale, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Helen E. (Pratt) Shafer. Mr. Shafer was a retired store manager for Southern States Oakland Cooperative, having worked there in various capacities for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary L. (Friend) Shafer; two daughters, Donna J. Shafer, McHenry, Md.; and Mrs. Rita S. Liller, Oakland, Md.; three sons, Rodney C. Shafer, Oakland, Md.; David A. Shafer, Swanton, Md.; and Gary W. Shafer, at home; three sisters, Virginia Schroyer and Mary Rodeheaver, both of Mountain Lake Park, Md.; and Verna Schroyer, Oakland, Md.; two brothers, James Shafer, Mountain Lake Park, Md.; and Joseph Shafer, Ridgeway; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends were received in the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, Md. A service was conducted July 1 by the Rev. Ivan H. Martin. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
