Shaffer, 77, Boswell RD 1, died March 9, 1976 at Mercy Hospital, Johnstown. Born May 2, 1898 in Conemaugh Twp. Somerset County a son of John W. and Lizzie Saylor Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents, sister Mary, brothers Lloyd, Lester and Clayton. Survived by widow, the former Gladys Thomas and these children: Esther, wife of Vernon Blough, Hollsopple RD 2; Grace, wife of Ralph Weaver, Boswell RD 1; Richard Blaine, married to the former Betty Good, Hollsopple RD 2; two grandchildren, Cindy Shaffer and Rusty Weaver. Was a brother of Ethel, wife of John McNutt, Boswell RD 1 and Helen, wife of Joseph McTonic, Jerome. Was a member of Thomas Mennonite Church and a retired employee of Johnstown Plant, Bethlehem Steel Corp. Friends received from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday and until 11 a.m. Saturday at Joseph H. Hoffman Funeral Home, 227 Allegheny St. Boswell. The body will then be removed to Thomas Mennonite Church for viewing from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. The Rev. Aldus J. Wingard and the Rev. Stanley R. Freed.
