Jay Shaffer, 64, formerly of Hyndman, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 1989, at his residence in Rockville, Md. Born in Hyndman Nov. 15, 1925, he was the son of the late Wilbert J. and Helen M. (Deremer) Shaffer. He was a retired chief radioman in the Navy, with 23 years of service. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict; a retired communications repairman for Montgomery County, he was the current owner and operator of an electronics repair company. Survivors include his widow, Vivian R. (Miller) Shaffer; one son, Roger J. Shaffer, Gaithersburg, Md.; one daughter, Susan E. Buck, Salinas, Calif; two brothers, George M. Shaffer, Hyndman RD 1; and William C. Shaffer, Smithtown, N.Y.; two sisters, Margaret J. Monnett, Baltimore, Md.; and JoAnn E. Dibert, RD 2, Bedford; and four grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home. Services will be conducted there Thursday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Joseph R. Stains. Interment will be the Palo Alto Hilltop Cemetery, near Hyndman. Military honors and pallbearers will be provided by Oscar Jordan Post 7375, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hyndman; and the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. The Republic, December 14, 1989 [S0879]
