  SHAFFER
  
  Mrs. Ellen Catherine Shaffer, 89, Boswell RD 1, died Oct. 26.  Born
  Aug. 9, 1885, in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, a daughter of
  Jacob and Susan Barkley Heckman.  Preceded in death by parents;
  Husband, Charles E; sons, John and Herbert H.; and brothers, William
  and Daniel.  Survived by these children: Harold W. and Laura, wife of
  Leon Spory, both of Boswell RD 1; Earl, Morrisville; Martin and Betty,
  wife of James Allen, both of Canton, Pa.; Elma, wife of Robert
  Williamson, and Mary, wife of Foster Custer, both of Davidsville; 27
  grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren.  Was last surviving charter
  member of Benscreek Lutheran Church.  Was a former Sunday School
  teacher and choir member, and a member of the church LCW.  Last
  surviving member of her family.  Friends were received Sunday evening
  and will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday and until noon
  Tuesday at Joseph H. Hoffman Funeral Home, 227 Allegheny St.,
  Boswell.  The body will then be removed to Benscreek Lutheran Church
  for viewing from 1 p.m. until service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. Arthur
  L. Mentzer officiating.  Interment Thomas Mennonite Cemetery.
