    Eric W. Shaffer, 24, Waldorf, Md., formerly of Somerset, died March 17, 2006, in
  LaPlata, Md. Born July 21, 1981, in Somerset, he is the son of Joel and Sharon (Shockey)
  Shaffer, Friedens. Also survived by his wife, the former Amanda Meier; brother, Jeremy
  Shaffer and wife, Rebecca, Berlin; mother and father-in-law, Andy and Sue Meier,
  LaGrange, N.C.; grandparents, Donald and Ruth Shaffer, Somerset; and Kenneth and Ruth
  Shockey, Friedens; and his pet cats, Makoa and Ku'uipo. Member of St. Paul's United
  Church of Christ and the Sierra Club. Active in the Boy Scouts and was a 2000 graduate of
  Somerset High School and a 2004 graduate of Penn State where he was a member of the Alumni
  Association. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Robert H.
  Halverson Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Thursday in
  St. Paul's United Church of Christ. The Rev. Matthew Deal will officiate. Interment in
  Edie Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Clearwater Conservancy, 2555 N. Atherton
